Feb. 8, 2010
SAN DIEGO - Aztec women's basketball signee Jasmine Porter, a senior at Layton Christian Academy in Utah, earned a spot in Sports Illustrated's Faces In The Crowd in the magazine's Feb. 1, edition.
Porter, who inked a national letter of intent with SDSU in November, was honored for her accomplishments in both basketball and volleyball. The 6-3 forward broke the Utah state single-game scoring record with 51 points in her team's 92-23 victory over Maeser Prep on Jan. 12. The record was previously held by Brenda Casper of Wasatch who scored 47 in 1988, and Kristen Crockett, who also scored 47 for Viewmont in 2000.
Porter is averaging over 25 points a contest so far in her senior season and has led the Lady Eagles to a 14-4 record. She has scored over 20 points 13 times and has reached the 30-point barrier four times.
In the fall, Porter helped lead Layton Christian to the state Class 2A volleyball championship with 17 kills, 10 digs and 10 blocks in the title game to garner MVP honors.
