SAN DIEGO - Prior to their game last Saturday at Cox Arena, the San Diego State and Utah women's basketball teams took a moment to send a special greeting to North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow.

Yow is a past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and is currently battling the disease for the third time. In her 36 years as a head coach at the college-level, Yow is one of only six Division I head women's basketball mentors to achieve 700 career victories.

Aztec head coach Beth Burns was an assistant on Yow's staff from 1988-89, helping the Wolfpack advance to the Sweet 16 in 1989. She and Yow also were members of the USA Basketball Olympic team selection committee from 1997-2000.

The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, in partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, raises money in the fight against cancer.
