Women's Hoops Wraps Up The Regular Season Saturday At CSU
March 4, 2011
The San Diego State women's basketball team concludes the regular season Saturday, as the Aztecs take on Colorado State in Ft. Collins, Colo., beginning at noon PT at Moby Arena.
With only the top three seeds determined for next week's Mountain West Conference championships, scheduled for March 8-12 in Las Vegas, a lot is still on the line for the remaining six league squads.
SDSU is currently tied for fifth place with the host Rams at 6-9, and trails fourth place Utah (7-8) by just one game. With a victory, the Aztecs can assure themselves of either a No. 4 or No. 5 seed, while a loss would relegate them to the No. 6 spot. San Diego State would need help to be the No. 4 seed, as New Mexico, which plays at Air Force, and UNLV, which plays host to Utah, would both have to win as well.
Besides the impact for the league championships, the Aztecs want to end their current two-game losing skid and enter next week with a victory in hand. SDSU has led by double-figures in each of its last two losses to two of the conference's top three squads, including an early 10-point advantage vs. Wyoming on Wednesday.
The Rams also are coming off a defeat at the hands of Utah (61-59) three days ago. Colorado State, however, beat San Diego State for the first time since 2007 last month at Viejas Arena, 56-51.
The Aztecs have won three in a row at Moby Arena, including a 73-54 victory in its final regular-season road contest in 2010. The game will feature a live audio webcast with Chris Ello, as well as live stats, on goaztecs.com.
Game No. 28 - at Colorado St. (13-15, 6-9 MWC)
