Aztec Head Coach Beth Burns Reelected To WBCA Board of Directors
June 7, 2010
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head coach Beth Burns has been reelected to a three-year term on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Board of Directors, the WBCA announced last week. She will continue to serve as a Division I at-large representative on the 23-member board.
Burns was elected for her new term in a vote by head coaches, assistant coaches and directors of basketball operations at Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and JC/CC institutions, who are members of the organization. She is currently completing a one-year stint in the same position, which she was tabbed for in June 2009. She had been finishing the three-year term of Arizona State's Charli Turner-Thorne, who was named the organization's vice president last summer.
Burns is an active member of the WBCA, serving as a committee member in 2008-09 for the Jostens-Berenson Lifetime Achievement Award, which that year was given to the late Kay Yow. She also has been a part of the voting panel for the WBCA/USA Today Coaches Top 25 national weekly poll.
The WBCA Board of Directors includes representatives from the high school, collegiate and professional levels. It develops policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of the organization. The board also monitors the organization's financial health, programs and overall performance and provides the chief executive officer with the resources to meet the needs of those the organization serves.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
