Aztec alum Chelsea Hopkins signed a seven-day contract with the WNBA's Atlanta Dream this week.
This is Hopkins' second stint in the WNBA this season. She signed with the New York Liberty in June but was waived days later after logging one minute over two games. Prior to the 2017 season, she spent time at the Los Angeles Sparks' training camp. Hopkins has also participated in training camps with the Liberty in 2015 and the Phoenix Mercury in 2014. In 2013, she played in four games with the San Antonio Silver Stars.
Hopkins, a Las Vegas native, has been playing professionally since concluding her SDSU career in 2013. She played three seasons (2014-16) in the Israeli D1 League, earning the league's Guard of the Year award in 2015 on 20.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game.
A two-year starter with the Aztecs after transferring from Duke University, Hopkins was named the 2013 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and received honorable mention All-America recognition from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), leading SDSU to a program-best 27-7 record and its second straight regular-season league title.
Hopkins, who topped the nation with four triple-doubles and finished seventh in assists during the 2012-13 campaign, also set an Aztec single-season record with 232 assists and finished her SDSU career with 442 helpers, which ranks fourth in school history.
