Join Aztec Basketball For The Girl Scouts Run/Walk For A New Day
Sept. 9, 2009
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's basketball is looking for new "team" members to join them at the Girl Scouts Run/Walk for a New Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Liberty Station in Pt. Loma. The event, now in its third year, includes both a 5K and one-mile run/walk and is designed to raise awareness of the importance of a balanced, healthy lifestyle for girls and the adults in their life.
"We're thrilled to be a part of the Girl Scouts' Run/Walk for a New Day for the third consecutive year," Aztec head coach Beth Burns said. "The Girl Scouts are an important part of our community and they have always been quick to support the Aztecs. Now it's our turn to give back to them. Please join our team by running, walking or just coming out to cheer!"
The 5K race begins at 8 a.m., while the one-mile distance starts at 8:30 a.m. Entrants will receive a free goodie bag and can enjoy live entertainment after the race. You can sign up for the event by joining Aztec basketball's virtual on-line team or make a general donation at: Aztec Basketball Team Fundraising Page
The last two years, Aztec basketball has volunteered its time at the local event by stuffing participant "goodie" bags, working at the registration tent, collecting bib numbers and directing runners on the course. The team also annually sponsors a Girl Scouts Night at one of its home games.
