SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team, which finished 24-8 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season, has been ranked 22nd nationally by Lindy's College Basketball, a national preseason magazine. The publication dubbed the Aztecs, "an up-and-coming program that could add to the power balance on the West Coast."

Easily one of the Aztecs' most challenging non-conference slates in head coach Beth Burns' second tenure, the 2009-10 schedule includes meetings with fellow Lindy's preseason top 25 members, No. 5 Notre Dame (Nov. 26) and No. 10 Oklahoma (Nov. 27).

Earlier this summer, San Diego State also received preseason national recognition from ESPN.com's Charlie Creme, who picked the Aztecs No. 23 among the 64 teams to watch in 2009-10. Creme singled out Aztec junior center Paris Johnson (San Diego, Calif.) as "2009-10's breakout star."

The Aztecs return four starters in 2009-10, including Wade Trophy and John R. Wooden Award candidate guard Jené Morris (San Francisco, Calif.), first-team all-conference selection center Paris Johnson and career assists leader guard Quenese Davis (Sacramento, Calif.). SDSU has 10 letterwinners back overall from last year's squad that claimed a share of its' first-ever Mountain West Conference crown, upset undefeated and fourth-ranked Texas, completed a perfect 14-0 regular season home campaign and received votes in the final ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.

San Diego State begins practice October 16, with its first and only exhibition contest set for Friday, Nov. 6, against Point Loma Nazarene at 7 p.m. at Viejas Arena.
