Aztec Women's Basketball Opens Practice For 2010-11 Season Friday

Oct. 7, 2010

SAN DIEGO - The defending Mountain West Conference champion and 2010 NCAA Sweet Sixteen participant San Diego State women's basketball team officially opens practice for the upcoming 2010-11 campaign this coming Friday afternoon at Viejas Arena.

The Aztecs are starting full team workouts a week earlier than usual due to a new NCAA rule that allows women's basketball squads to practice 40 days prior to their first regular-season contest. SDSU may have as many as 30 days of practice over that time period.

"We fully intend to continue the level of excellence we've been able to accomplish to date," Aztec head coach Beth Burns said. "No one can place higher expectations or challenge us more than ourselves. That being said, this is as critical of a one-month practice period as we've ever had. Although we will rely heavily on the leadership and guidance of our three returning seniors, Jessika Bradley, Coco Davis and Paris Johnson, it's our inexperienced, young talent that will make or break our season.

"Coaches and players alike cannot wait to get out on the court and go to work, so that a month from now we'll be ready to hit the ground running."

The Aztecs are returning three starters and six letterwinners from the 2009-10 team that compiled a 23-11 overall record, won the MWC tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen with upsets over two top-25 foes in No. 17 Texas and No. 10 West Virginia.

SDSU begins this season with a home exhibition game vs. UC San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. The official opener is Friday, Nov. 12, when the Aztecs take on UCLA at Viejas Arena live on The Mtn. also at 7 p.m.

Season tickets for the 2010-11 San Diego State women's basketball home season are on sale now, starting at just $60. They can be purchased online at, over the phone by calling 619-283-7378, or by visiting the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium's Window "E." The ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
