Women's Basketball Receiving Votes In Coaches' Poll
Nov. 3, 2010
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team is receiving votes (22) in the preseason USA Today ESPN Division I Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The Aztecs, who were ranked 20th in the final coaches' poll at the end of last season, also garnered votes in the Associated Press preseason top 25 last week, marking the second consecutive year that SDSU has received votes in both national preseason polls.
San Diego State's 22 votes were the 34th-most overall and along with TCU (29th - 70 votes), are the only two Mountain West Conference schools to earn a mention in either national poll. The Aztecs had eight votes (37th-most overall) and TCU was ranked 23rd in the AP edition.
SDSU earned votes in the coaches' poll eight times in 2009-10, including on Nov. 23, when it reached the No. 24 slot. The Aztecs finished the campaign at No. 20, the first time they had been ranked in the coaches' poll to end a season since it began in 1986.
In 2010-11, SDSU has potentially seven regular-season games against teams receiving votes in the coaches' top-25 poll, including a match-up with No. 15 UCLA to open the campaign on Nov. 12, in San Diego. Besides TCU, who the Aztecs play twice, No. 8 Texas A&M (Dec. 30), North Carolina State (Nov. 27), Dayton (Dec. 18) and USC (Dec. 19) are all ranked or receiving votes.
San Diego State plays its first and only exhibition game this Thursday, Nov. 4, when UC San Diego travels south to Viejas Arena for a 7 p.m. tip-off. General admission tickets are only $4 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at 619-220-8497 or via ticketmaster.com. Fans can also visit the Viejas Arena Box Office or the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium (window E).
