SDSU Women's Basketball Opens 2004-05 Campaign Wednesday
Nov. 9, 2004
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team begins the third year of the Jim Tomey era Wednesday with an exhibition game against Team Concept at 7 p.m. at Cox Arena. Admission for the game is free.
Team Concept, a squad of former college players, is completing its three-game exhibition slate against the Aztecs. Team Concept lost 67-46 at Washington State on Nov. 7, and fell to another Pac-10 Conference team, Arizona State, 80-44, on Monday evening.
The Team Concept roster includes former SDSU standout and Aztec Hall of Fame member Falisha Wright. Wright was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002, after earning honorable mention All-America honors on two occasions and finishing as the school's career assists leader. Wright was a four-year letterwinner along with her twin sister, Lakeysha, from 1992-95. She most recently served as an assistant women's basketball coach at Portland State.
The Aztecs return seven letterwinners and three starters from the 2003-04 squad, which went 8-20 overall and 3-11 in the Mountain West Conference. Five of the team's top six scorers are also back, including sophomores Michelle Elliott (Pasco, Wash.) and Courtney Fritz (Newberg, Ore.), who both averaged in double-figures a year ago.
SDSU has split its two exhibition contests in each of the last five seasons. The last time the Aztecs played just one exhibition game to open a season was in 1998-99.
Live stats will be available for Wednesday's exhibition contest. All regular-season SDSU women's basketball games will be broadcast live on the internet free of charge via TEAMLINE. More information is available on the Aztec women's basketball web page at www.goaztecs.com.
