SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's basketball senior center Paris Johnson (San Diego, Calif.) is among an elite group to earn a mention in's top five players nationally at each position article posted Wednesday. Only 34 players (seven centers) were recognized overall, including Johnson, who garnered at least one vote from the site's four-person panel.

Johnson has started all 97 contests for the Aztecs since coming to The Mesa in 2007 from San Diego High School, where she was a two-time prep section player of the year. Since then, she has earned all-Mountain West Conference honors on three occasions and garnered league player-of-the week accolades six times. Johnson, who was named to the preseason all-conference squad for the third year in a row last month, has 63 career double-figure scoring outings, 15 double-doubles and ranks second in school history with 210 blocks.

In addition, the Aztecs were picked fifth in the national mid-major top 10 by writer Graham Hays, who called Johnson and fellow senior Jessika Bradley (Sacramento, Calif.) as having "the potential to be the best post duo this side of Palo Alto when it comes to the left coast." SDSU is rated the highest of the four Mountain West Conference schools to earn a mention, as TCU is sixth, followed by Wyoming (16th) and BYU (17th).

The Aztecs begin their 2010-11 campaign with their 13th Associated Press top-25 foe in the last three seasons, as No. 16/15 UCLA comes to Viejas Arena Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.
