Aztecs To Compete At The San Diego Crew Classic

The 24th-ranked San Diego State women's crew team, winners of last year's Cal Cup, will be competing at the 27th Annual San Diego Crew Classic held at Mission Bay. The annual regatta begins on Saturday with 52 preliminary heats for both the men's and women's divisions. The finals will be conducted on Sunday with 35 races. Each day of races are set to begin at 7 a.m.

Upon winning the Cal Cup in 1999, SDSU automatically qualified for this year's Jessop Whittier Cup. A highly-competitive field of national powerhouses await the Aztecs varsity-eight squad, including fourth-ranked and winner of the last eight Jessop Whitter Cups, Washington, third-ranked California, fourth-ranked USC, sixth-ranked Michigan, eighth-ranked Michigan State, ninth-ranked Wisconsin, 17th-ranked Oregon State, and 21st-ranked Washington State.

In all, San Diego State is expected to compete in three races, including on the women's junior varsity level and the women's collegiate novice level.
