Crew To Compete In Annual NorCal/SoCal Challenge

The Aztec crew team will compete in a total of 10 races against three other schools at this weekend's NorCal/SoCal Challenge.

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will compete in a series of races this weekend as part of the annual NorCal/SoCal Challenge on Saturday and Sunday (April 14-15) in Redwood City, Calif. The Aztecs will be represented by four boats as they face schools from both northern and southern California at the Redwood Shores Lagoon. Races will be ongoing throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday morning as the Stanford Rowing Invitational will be conducted simultaneously,

On Saturday (April 14), SDSU will have four races against UC Davis in the morning flowed by three events against Loyola Marymount in the afternoon. Sunday's action will have the Aztec competing in three races vs. St. Mary's. SDSU will compete in Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 races against all three schools while the Aztec Novice 8 boat will only compete against UC Davis.

Action gets underway on Saturday with the Aztecs facing UC Davis in four races, the first of which will start at 9:50 a.m. That afternoon's first of three events for SDSU will come at 3:00 p.m. beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sundays three races against St. Mary's will begin at 9:40 a.m. (See below for San Diego State's race schedule.)

"We are looking forward to this weekend's intense racing schedule," commented SDSU Head Coach Jennifer Lewis. "This will be our second time racing against UC Davis and Loyola Marymount this season and our first competition against St. Mary's."

San Diego's crew for the Varsity 8 races include Jennifer Miller (coxswain), Sarah Gannon (stroke), Chelsee Brewster (seven), Kate Raymond (six), Emily Walton (five), Vivianna Smith (four), Marissa Shaw (three), Sophie Poser (two) and Romaine Desclos (bow).

Aztec competitors in the Second Varsity 8 boat will be includes Courtney Siemsen (coxswain), Alex Kudlicki (stroke), Chandler Cole (seven), Lindsay Miller (six), Peggy Tio (five), Darian Kimball (four), Kaitlyn Goss (three), Alex Accornero (two) and Erica Orgon (bow).

The SDSU entry in the Varsity 4+ races will be manned by Emily Mauer (coxswain), Cassie Wilson (four), Elizabeth West (three), Rae Backens (two) and Samantha Flores (one).

The crew for the Aztecs' Novice 8 boat includes Anna Nelson (Coxswain), Sarah Hultin (stroke), Brittany Harris (seven), Veronica McLean (six), Tara Kistler (five), Tiana Fohne (four), Leah Peterson (three), Kayli Wagner (two) and Sarah Winfield (bow).

The races at the Redwood Shore Lagoon may be viewed from the Paragon Point area, the bridge at the 1000 meter point or along the shore at the base of the Hotel Sofitel.
