SAN DIEGO - San Diego State crew head coach Jennifer Zebroski has announced the signing of three additional athletes for the 2009-10 season. The trio includes a pair of club teammates from Santa Cruz, Calif., along with a club team MVP from Hawthorne, Calif.

Hailing from Scotts Valley High School in Santa Cruz are Lauren Bischoff and Marissa Caldarella. Both have two years of rowing experience as members of the Los Gatos Rowing Club.

Bischoff, who played volleyball and soccer for her high school, was an alternate for Nationals in her first year of competition and was a member of the team that placed sixth at the USRowing Youth Nationals in the Varsity 8 in 2009. She served as the team captain for the Scotts Valley HS volleyball and soccer teams as a prep athlete.

"Lauren is a natural athlete who was able to pick up the sport of rowing very quickly," commented Zebroski. "In her first year at Los Gatos she made it into the varsity boats and competed against other athletes with years of rowing experience. Her leadership qualities and athleticism will help our novice squad immensely this fall."

Caldarella's two years of crew experience include one as a rower and one as coxswain at Los Gatos. A four-year honor roll student in high school, she also competed for the SVHS soccer and softball squads during her prep career.

"Marissa will be a wonderful addition to the Aztecs rowing program," noted Zebroski. "She has one year of rowing experience and one year of coxing so she knows both sides of the sport."

Kayla McKenna will come to SDSU with two years of rowing experience at the Marina Aquatic Center in Hawthorne, Calif., where she was named the MVP of the 2008 Novice Team. She attended Mira Costa High School where she played two years of softball and was an honor roll student.

"Kayla has become a true powerhouse after just two years of rowing," said Zebroski. "She has had a lot of success during her career at Marina Aquatic Center and was voted MVP in her first year. She strives to perform at a high level and her determination will be a great asset to the novice squad this fall."

These three rowers join seven others who signed with the Aztecs last November and will arrive as freshmen this fall. The complete list of 2009-10 crew recruits is as follows:
