Rowers Continue Fall Season at Newport Autumn Rowing Festival

Back At It
After a week break, the San Diego State rowing team continues its fall season Sunday competing at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. The Aztecs are scheduled to compete in the open eight (8 a.m.), novice eight (9:30 a.m.) and open four with coxswain (10 a.m.) events. The regatta is held on a 2.7 mile course at the Newport Aquatic Center in Newport Beach, Calif.

*From the 405 freeway in Costa Mesa, take the 55 freeway south until it becomes Newport Blvd.
*Continue south on Newport> *Left on 17th Street
*Left on Dover Drive.
*Right on Westcliff Drive
*Right at the stop sign (still Westcliff Dr.)
*Right on Santiago Drive
*Left on Polaris Drive
*Right on Northstar Lane
*Left on Whitecliffs Drive

SDSU Lately
SDSU got its 2001-02 season underway On Oct. 21 at the 37th-annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The two-day event is one of the world's largest fall regattas with hundreds of teams competing. The Aztecs competed in the championship-eight event, finishing the three-mile course in 18:16.46. The time ranked them 44th out of a 53-team field that included some tough competitors. The USRowing team took the event's top spot with a time of 16:01.69, followed by last year's event winner, Princeton (16:10.84) and the London Training Center (16:17.759).

Things To Come
SDSU is scheduled to compete at the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle on Nov. 10, the San Diego Fall Classic on Nov. 11 and the Long Beach Christmas Regatta on Dec. 2.
