The San Diego State women's golf team finished its first tournament of 2012 in ninth place after posting a final-round 23-over 311 Tuesday at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the par-72, 6,321-yard Golf Club at Vistoso. The Aztecs had the seventh-best score in the field over the final 18 holes to improve by one spot on the leaderboard with a 63-over 927.

SDSU had two golfers place in the individual top 25, including junior Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.), who tied for 16th place with an 8-over 224, and senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who tied for 21st place with an 11-over 227. Wong had her highest score of the tournament in the final round, carding a 6-over 78 with no birdies and six bogeys. Enarsson, meanwhile, improved by two spots with the team's low 18 of the day with a 76, highlighted by birdies on the fourth and sixth holes.

Aztec junior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) was 1-under through her first eight holes, but then notched five consecutive bogeys followed by a triple-bogey on the par-4 10th. Clark still managed to cut two strokes off her second-round total with a 79 to climb from 47th into 41st with a 235.

SDSU junior Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) carded her low 18 of the tournament with a 78 to jump into 56th place, while freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) rounded out the Aztec starting five in 69th with a 254. After posting back-to-back career low rounds of 77, sophomore Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.), who was competing as an individual, dropped 20 slots into 62nd place with an 89 to end the three-day event with a 243.

Arizona set a school record for a 54-hole tournament with a 13-under 851, easily defeating top-ranked and second place UCLA by 12 strokes. Wildcat Manon Gidali also cruised to the individual title by seven strokes with her 12-under 204.
