SDSU Women's Golf Takes Fifth At Bruin Wave Invite

Sophomore Gina Clark carded the team's best round of the day with her 1-under 71, to move from 19th to 12th place and lead the San Diego State women's golf team to a fifth-place performance at the 54-hole Bruin Wave Invitational in Santa Clarita, Calif. The Aztecs posted a final round 301 and ended up at 34-over 898 for the tournament Wednesday at the par-72, 6,282-yard Robinson Ranch Golf Club.
Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) had three birdies and two bogeys while notching pars on the remaining 13 holes to post SDSU's second sub-par round of the week. She finished with a season-best 5-over 221, beating her previous low of 227 at the spring-opening Arizona Wildcat Invitational.
Junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) rebounded from her second-round 80 to card a 74 with a pair of birdies and moved up one slot on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 14th place with a 223. Sophomore Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) was unable to match her even-par 72 from Tuesday's 18 holes, settling for 21st place with a 9-over 225, including a final-round 77.
Senior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) also dropped from 19th into 31st with a 79, while senior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) ended the event in a tie for 63rd with a 24-over 240. Sophomore Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy), who was competing as an individual, posted her second consecutive sub-80 round with a 79 to tie for 51st place with a 19-over 235.
Third-ranked and tournament co-host UCLA dominated the field, winning by 20 strokes with a 4-under 860. The Bruins had three players finish in the top three, including medalist Lee Lopez, who posted a 4-under 212.
San Diego State will not return to action for another two weeks as the Aztecs play host to the inaugural the Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn, March 20-22.
