In a tournament with six top-50 schools, the San Diego State women's golf team held its own, finishing the 54-hole event in sixth place with a 54-over 918, including a final round 307 on Tuesday, at the par-72, 6,223-yard Almaden Country Club in San Jose. The Aztecs, who entered the event ranked 54th nationally by golfstat.com, finished two strokes ahead of No. 44 USF and were just one stroke behind No. 22 Oklahoma State and trailed No. 38 UC Irvine by only two strokes.

SDSU had two golfers finish in the top 17 among the 84 participants. Freshman Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) moved from 16th into a tie for 11th with a final-round 75, including birdies on two of her first three holes. Wong ended up at 10-over 226, just one stroke out of seventh place, for her fifth top-15 performance in seven tournaments this season.

Aztec junior Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) logged her second-best finish of 2009-10, tying for 17th, only one stroke behind Wong with a 11-over 227, including a final round 77.

Classmate Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) made the biggest improvement from day one, taking four strokes off her second round total by matching Wong's 75. With the effort, Arcala moved from 44th place all the way to 30th at 16-over 232. Sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) was unable to find any consistency over the final 18 holes with two birdies, nine bogeys and one double bogey for her second 81 of the event. Enarsson tied with teammate Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.) for 52nd in the final standings at 22-over 238.

California, ranked 14th nationally, erased a seven-stroke deficit to take home the team title by two strokes over No. 26 UC Davis with an 899. San Jose State's Cristina Corpus kept her day one lead to earn medalist honors with a 1-over 217, two strokes better than Aggie Demi Runas.
