SDSU Finishes Ninth At TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The San Diego State women's golf team finished ninth of 19 teams at the TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic by shooting a 22-over 310 in the final round to end the tournament at 38-over 614. Senior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) finished tied for 11th at 3-over 147 to lead the field of Aztecs at the par-72, 6,259-yard Salt Creek Golf Club.
Oliver was third in par 4 scoring (-1) for the entire tournament while her final round score of 1-over 73 was the best of her fall season. Her 36-hole total of 147 was also a season-best. As a team, the Aztecs were third in par 3 scoring (+8) and had a third-best 107 pars.
Sophomores Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) and Heather Wilson (Chula Vista, Calif.) both finished the tournament tied for 26th by shooting identical rounds of 76 and 77, respectively. Junior Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia) carded a 7-over 79 in the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for 31st. Sophomore Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) shot a 9-over 81 on day two while junior MacKenzie Swecker (Winnemucca, Nev.) carded a 17-over 89.
Sophomore Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) followed up her career-best round of 71 with an 8-over 80 to finish in 22nd place. Freshman Marcela Campbell (Glendale, Calif.) was forced to withdraw before the final round due to injury.
No. 9 Denver swept both the team and individual medalist honors in the 113-player, 19-team field. The Pioneers finished at 6-over 582 to win the team title over No. 20 Brigham Young, who finished seven strokes behind. Individually, Emily Hoeper and Stephanie Sherlock of Denver finished the final round in a tie for first at 3-under 141. In a one-hole playoff at hole No. 1, Sherlock had the better score to take home medalist honors.
San Diego State travels to Hawaii for its final tournament of the fall season. The Aztecs will play at the Kent Youel Invitational on Oct. 23-25.
