SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s golf team continues its spring schedule early next week when it ventures to the Central Coast for the Bruin Wave Invitational, Feb. 26-27, in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The first two rounds of the 54-hole event will commence on Monday with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start at the par-72, 6,323-yard San Luis Obispo Country Club, while the final 18 holes are scheduled for completion on Tuesday with tee times off holes 1 and 10 as early as 7:50 a.m. A live scoring link for both days will be available on GoAztecs.com courtesy of Golfstat.

The Aztecs are among nine schools in the elite 16-team field ranked among the Golfstat top 60 this week. Along with tournament co-hosts UCLA (No. 1) and Pepperdine (No. 45), No. 54 San Diego State will battle No. 4 Stanford, No. 10 USC, No. 18 Washington, No. 19 Colorado and No. 43 California and No. 49 San José State. In addition, the Aztecs will be afforded an early look another Mountain West rival in Fresno State, while Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Hawai’i, New Mexico State, Sacramento State and San Francisco round out the list of participating squads.

For SDSU’s second spring tournament, seventh-year head coach Leslie Spalding will employ the starting lineup of freshmen Sara Kjellker (Hollviken, Sweden) and Gioia Carpinelli (Boppelsen, Switzerland), along with seniors Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.), Mila Chaves (Asunción, Paraguay) and Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.).

Earlier this month, Kjellker was the Aztecs' top golfer in the team’s spring opener at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., where she tied for 34th after carding an 11-over-par 224 in a stacked tournament that featured 13 teams ranked in the Golfstat top 30. For the season, Kjellker leads the Scarlet and Black with a 74.75 scoring average through four events, including four rounds at or below par.

SDSU finished ninth at the Bruin Wave Invitational a year ago after posting a combined 61-over 937. The Aztecs return two starters from last season’s edition, as Lacey tied for 26th at 15-over 234, while Krause landed in the 53rd position at 23-over 242 when the course played as a rare par-73 configuration.

The Bruin Wave Invitational will be contested in San Luis Obispo for the third straight season following a four-year run at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana from 2012-15. SDSU boasted the individual winner in 2012 when Christine Wong took home medalist honors with a collective 3-over 219. In 2010 and 2011, the event was conducted at Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita.

Stanford will be looking to defend its team title from a year ago after recording a combined 26-over 902 to narrowly defeat runner-up UCLA by one stroke. The Bruins’ Lilia Vu will aiming for her second straight individual crown after claiming medalist honors with an even-par 219. Fellow teammate Mariel Galdiano is also back in the mix, along with the Cardinal’s Albane Valenzuela, both of whom tied for third at 4-over 223.

Following the Bruin Wave Invitational, the Aztecs will venture south of the border to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for the University of Iowa’s Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational, March 16-17, at El Tigre Club de Golf.
