WOODLAND, CALIF. - The San Diego State Lacrosse team has been voted to finish fifth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) preseason poll, after finishing its 2012 inaugural season tied for fifth place.

The Aztecs earned 33 points, a considerable increase from 15 points in last year's preseason poll. SDSU received five more points than UC Davis, which finished tied with the Aztecs in the 2012 standings.

Stanford has been predicted to finish first, claiming 59 points and four first-place votes. It's the fourth-straight season the Cardinal has been projected to win the MPSF.

Defending champion Oregon has been picked to finish second with 55 points and three first-place votes, Denver was selected third with 53 points and two first-place votes, while California was voted fourth with 47 points. USC, in its first season of competition, was picked seventh (24) ahead of Fresno State (13) and St. Mary's (12).

SDSU begins its season on the road at Jacksonville on Feb. 16 and at Stetson on Feb. 17, before playing host to St. Mary's to begin MPSF play on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. PT. The Aztecs finished 5-10 overall and 2-5 in MPSF play in 2012.
