Two Former Aztecs Named to Mountain West Conference 10th Anniversary Women's Soccer Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Former San Diego State stars Kim Castellanos and Alexis Solovij were named to the Mountain West Conference 10th anniversary women's soccer team, as selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and online fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been a first-team all-MWC selection at least once in their careers.A native of Escondido, Calif., Castellanos earned first-team all-MWC accolades for three straight years from 2000-2002 and was named the league's co-freshman of the year in 2000. The former Aztec forward was also selected to the MWC all-tournament squad in 2001. Castellanos finished with 36 goals and 82 points for her career, which rank second and third, respectively, in SDSU history. Solovij, meanwhile, was the only defender named to the 11-player anniversary squad. The Santa Barbara, Calif., product garnered first-team all-MWC honors for three consecutive campaigns from 2002-2004 and was voted the league's defensive player of the year as a junior in 2004. That same season, Solovij was also one of four Aztecs to land on the MWC all-tournament team. Solovij, a two-time team captain, started 74 out of 78 matches during her four years on Montezuma Mesa. Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 seasons in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th anniversary.
