LOUISVILLE, Ky. - San Diego State is receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll, which was released Tuesday. The Aztecs totaled 12 points, tied with Notre Dame for the 35th-most points in the preseason poll.

Defending national champion Oklahoma is ranked first with 799 points and 31 of the 32 first-place votes, while Florida picked up the other first-place vote with 762 points. Oregon came in third with 719 points, and Washington (674) and UCLA (48-15) rounded out the top five.

SDSU is 59 points away from the top 25 and No. 25 Georgia (71). Texas State leads the receiving votes group with 35 points, followed by California (30), South Carolina (29), Marshall (17), Mississippi State (17), Missouri (15), Florida International (14), North Dakota State (14), Illinois (13), San Diego State (12), Notre Dame (12), Ohio State (9), St. Francis (Pa.) (7), North Carolina (4), Arkansas (2), McNeese State (2), Wisconsin (2), Cal State Fullerton (1), Fresno State (1), Louisiana Tech (1), Texas (1) and USC Upstate (1).

The poll is voted on by 32 NCAA Division I head coaches, one representing each conference.

The Aztecs are scheduled to play four teams that are ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Division poll, including No. 5 UCLA, No. 16 Minnesota, No. 17 Kentucky and No. 25 Georgia. Other SDSU opponents on docket who are receiving votes are Cal State Fullerton, Fresno State, North Dakota State, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

San Diego State is coming off a 31-18 overall record in 2017 - its 12th consecutive 30-win season - and a 15-9 mark and runner-up finish in MW play. The Aztecs, however, did not receive an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament, despite finishing second in the sixth-best conference in the nation (out of 32 leagues).

SDSU led the country last year with a .356 average, shattering their previous best of .310. In all, San Diego State set seven school records, including batting average, on-base percentage (.418), slugging percentage (.516), hits (497), RBIs (295), sacrifice flies (23) and runs (324, tied).

The Aztecs begin their season on the road at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., from Feb. 8-11. SDSU kicks off the 2018 slate on Thursday, Feb. 8 with games against Georgia (11:30 a.m. MT) and Stanford (7:15 p.m. MT), followed by another doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 9 with games vs. Western Michigan (5:15 p.m. MT) and Northwestern (7:30 p.m. MT), and single games against Nebraska (Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. MT) and UC Davis (Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. PT).
