Softball Set for Midweek Clash vs. Fairfield at USD

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team looks to snap its losing streak when it takes on Fairfield at the USD Softball Complex in San Diego at 4:30 p.m. PT Wednesday. The Aztecs (8-17) have lost their last seven games with three coming by one run, three in extra innings and another by two runs.
Katie Byrd leads the squad with a .300 average, 10 runs, 24 hits, five doubles, eight walks and a .364 on-base percentage. Molly Sturdivant (.273) paces SDSU with four home runs, 18 RBIs and a .455 slugging percentage, while Aris Metcalfe is perfect in stolen base chances, going 6-for-6.
Alex Formby and Marissa Moreno have done the bulk of the pitching staff for San Diego State. Formby is 5-7 with a 2.12 ERA over 72 2/3 innings, striking out 50 against 15 walks and limiting the opposition to a .202 average. Moreno, meanwhile, is 2-8 with a 3.44 ERA in 75 1/3 innings, while striking out 39 with 32 walks allowed, holding the opposition to a .293 average.
The Stags enter a Tuesday game with Cal State Fullerton with a 5-8 record after going 1-4 last week at the Tiger Clash in Towson, Md. Makenna DiGuilio leads the Fairfield offense with a .348 average, while Courtney Hankins’ two home runs and seven RBIs pace the team. Destinee Pallotto is the ace of the pitching staff, going 4-3 with a 3.50 ERA over 36 innings.
The game against the Stags at 4:30 p.m. PT Wednesday will be followed by host San Diego and Fairfield at 7 p.m. PT.
The Aztecs continue their nine-game road trip this weekend with their Mountain West opening series at San José State. SDSU and the Spartans will play Friday, Saturday and Sunday at noon PT at Mission College in Santa Clara, Calif.
