Aztec Softball Begins NCAA Tempe Regional Friday vs. No. 13/13 Michigan
The San Diego State softball team begins postseason play this weekend when it travels to the campus of Arizona State to compete in the NCAA Tempe Regional.

The Aztecs (39-17) earned the No. 3 seed in the double-elimination regional and will face second-seeded and No. 13/13 Michigan (42-12) at 12:30 p.m. PT Friday. The No. 9 overall seed and No. 4/4 Arizona State (44-10-1) and Dartmouth (31-17) will follow at 3 p.m. PT. The entire NCAA Tempe Regional will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

SDSU extended its school record with its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament and 10th appearance in 14 seasons by winning the Mountain West title and automatic bid with a 16-8 record. It was San Diego State's third straight league title and seventh in the 15-year history of the Mountain West.

The Aztecs, who also made the tournament in 2001, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, are 13-18 all-time in the NCAA championships and 3-4 against teams that made this year's tournament.

SDSU is playing in Tempe for the second straight year and for the fourth time in its last six NCAA years (also 2009, 2011 and 2013).

The regional winners will advance to super regional competition for a best-of-three series from May 22-25 at eight campus sites. The remaining eight teams will advance to the Women's College World Series (WCWS), an eight-team, double-elimination tournament with the championship final being a best-of-three series. The WCWS will be conducted May 28-June 4 at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
