SDSU record 72 S-As earn MW spring academic honors
SAN DIEGO STATE 2015-16
Had a season-best time of 55.10 in the 100 butterfly at the Mountain West Championships, a mark that ranks as the ninth-fastest time in school history … Her time of 1:59.60 in the 200 backstroke, set during the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station, Texas, on Nov. 21, ranks as the 10th-best in program history … Also turned in her top time in the 100 backstroke at the conference title meet with a 55.71 … Other than those three events, she swam the 50 free on one occasion recording at 24.81 at the MW Championships … A member of the 2016 Mountain West All-Academic team and was also received Mountain West Scholar-Athlete recognition.
AT WESTERN KENTUCKY 2013-15
Spent her freshman and sophomore years at Western Kentucky where she was coached by Bruce Marchionda ... Opened her collegiate career in a great way, notching 13 top-five finishes, including five in the top three... Team finished second in Conference USA both of her seasons there ... Was a finalist at the conference meet in the 100 back, 200 back and 100 fly in 2015 ... Two-year President's Award recipient ... Winner of 2015 Student-Athlete award.
Four-year letterwinner at Novi High School in Novi, Mich. ... Was coached there by her mother, Annette ... Earned All-America honors all four years ... Was also an All-State and All-Conference swimmer for the Wildcats ... In 2009, became state champion and Kensington Lake Athletics Association record holder in 100 back ... Three-time Oakland County and Kensington Lakes Athletic association champion in the 100 back ... Team record holder in 200 medley and 400 free relay, 200 IM and 100 back ... Named team captain senior year and team MVP in 2010 ... Also an Academic All-American ... Honor roll student all eight semesters who graduated magna cum laude.
Competed for the Kingfish Aquatic Club in Waterford, Mich., for three years ... National team member 2010-13.
Andrea Morgan VanderMey was born Feb. 3, 1995, in Grand Rapids, Mich. ... Daughter of Mark and Annette VanderMey ... Father, Mark, swam at Oakland University and was a 28-time Division II All-American who held the NCAA record in the 200 breaststroke and was a member of the USA National Team who competed in the Goodwill Games in Moscow in 1986 ... Enjoys photography, scrapbooking and traveling ... Favorite athlete is swimmer Natalie Coughlin .... Was also recruited by Vanderbilt .... A psychology major with career plan in the field of sports psychology.
