Steiner Eighth On 3-meter board at UCLA Invitational

Freshman Ashley Stott finished 14th of 55 divers on the 3-meter board at the UCLA Diving Invitational.

LOS ANGELES - Anna Steiner led a contingent on five Aztec divers that had a solid showing on the 3-meter board during the opening day of the UCLA Diving Invitational in Los Angeles. Steiner was SDSU's top finisher with as she captured eighth place in a field of 55 collegiate competitors.

The junior from Seattle totaled 543.45 points in the prelims and finals to end the afternoon seven places behind winner Haley Ishimatsu (654.15) from the University of Arizona. Fellow Aztec Ashley Stott, a freshman from Temecula, Calif., also qualified for the finals and finished with a total score of 515.70, good for 14th place.

Steiner (277.95) and Stott (265.10) had placed fourth and 10th respectively after the morning preliminary round of dives.

San Diego State's other competitors in the 3-meter competition included freshmen Kelsey Bean (25th - 23.80) and Chandler Marshall (33rd - 215.20) along with senior Rafaella Suarez (48th - 179.85).

Action at the UCLA Diving Invitational continues on Saturday with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter events. Scores for the divers will be counted as part of the double-dual swimming and diving meet involving Kansas, UCLA and the Aztecs with the swimming events scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Bruins' Spieker Aquatics Center.
