MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - San Diego State continued competition at the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis on Friday as it added three points to its total at the event being hosted by the University of Minnesota. The second day of the three-day meet saw the Aztecs competing in two individual events and one relay.

For the second straight day freshman Anika Apostalon was involved in a swim-off as she finished 16th in the 100 backstroke, tied with Sam Corea of Denver. Both swimmers went 52.64 in the prelims and a tiebreaker was need to determine which would advance to the consolation final.

Just a she did on Thursday, Apostalon was victorious in the swim-off and went on to finish sixth in the consolation final and earn three points for her team. He final placing (14th overall), was accomplished with a time of 52.54.

The three points brought SDSU's total for the meet to 26 as it sits in 22nd place among the 46 schools which have scored points over the first two days. The Aztecs previous high point total for an NCAA Championship meet came in 2010 when they tallied five points and finished 42nd.

As for San Diego State's other events on Friday, senior Mikaela Macklin went 4:10.31 in the 400 individual medley. Unfortunately that put her in 17th place at the end of prelims, one position outside of qualifying for the consolation final.

In the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Macklin, Natilee Ruiz, Whitney Weisz and Apostalon turned in a mark of 7:13 .39 and placed 26th. Their time will go into the SDSU record book as the fourth-fastest in the vent in program history.

The Aztecs will conclude their run at the NCAA Championships on Saturday (Mar. 23) as they field entire in three events. Macklin will swim the 200 breaststroke while Apostalon will compete in the 100 freestyle. SDSU will wrap up the meet by fielding a team in the 400 freestyle relay.

Prelims get underway at 11:00 a.m. (CT) at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center with finals set to begin at 7:00 p.m. (CT).
