SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State freshman Frida Berggren has earned Mountain West Women's Swimmer of the Week honors for competition from Jan. 5-11, 2014. It is the first Mountain West weekly honor for the first-year Aztec.

Berggren (Vastera, Sweden) led San Diego State to three victories during a triple dual meet against Colorado State (149-137), North Texas (160-125) and Tulane (159-123) at the Aztec Aquaplex on Friday, Jan. 10. During that meet she recorded first-place finishes in each of the three events in which she was entered.

Berggren began her day by capturing the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.50 and followed that up with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:03.52. She was also victorious in the 200 individual medley, finishing with a mark of 2:04.53 that went down as the fourth-fastest time in the history of the facility.

Based on its results over the past month, the San Diego State swimming team finds itself ranked 17th in the nation this week in the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Top 25. The rankings reflect each team's best performance meets swum over the past four weeks (Dec. 16 - Jan. 12).

The ranking accounts for teams' top performances over the preceding month and is the only objective ranking of swimming for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA and NJCAA. This year's rankings utilize a new point system based on a 1,100 point scale. The new scale uses NCAA time standards and a percentile ranking of all college times over the past four years. The CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 rank teams based on their top performances over the preceding month.

San Diego State swimming and diving will next be in action when it hosts the University of San Diego in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 12:00 p.m.at the Aztec Aquaplex. That contest will be SDSU's final dual meet of the season.
