COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – 11 individuals and four relay teams from the San Diego State swimming and diving team earned All-Mountain West honors Monday, including freshman Klara Thormalm, who earned Freshman of the Meet honors last weekend at the MW Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
The Aztecs finished second in the MW championships, trailing only Boise State, claiming the team’s ninth consecutive top-3 finish in the annual conference meet.
Divers Alexandra Caplan, Marie Yacopino, and Nicole Dutton all earned all-MW status. Caplan earned honors in all three diving events – 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform – while Yacopino and Dutton earned all-conference status in 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively. Caplan, who competed in her final MW championships last week, concludes her career with 11 all-conference awards.
Joining Caplan with a team-high three all-conference honors was Klara Thormalm, McKenna Meyer, and Frida Berggren. Berggren claimed a pair of individual titles at the MW championships, recording first-place times in both the 200 fly (1:58.05) and 200 IM (1:59.28).
Meyer finished in the top four of all four of the events she competed in for the week, including second-place finishes in the 500 free (4:44.71) and 400 IM (4:12.36).
Thormalm posted a trio of top-3 finishes last week, including second-place times in the 200 breast (2:12.13) and 50 free (22.77). Thormalm also contributed to three of SDSU’s relay teams that received an all-conference nod.
Including an individual title in the 100 fly, Courtney Vincent earned all-conference awards in both the 100 and 200 fly.
Now, the team is currently waiting to see what times qualify for the NCAA Championships, which take place from March 14 – 17 in Columbus, Ohio.
