IRVINE, Calif. - Six San Diego State University swimmers are set to compete at the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif., this week. The meet, which will be nationally televised on NBC, will take place from August 3-7 and will also serve as a qualifying meet for numerous other international events, including the Pan Pacific Championships (also held in Irvine later this month) and the World University Games.

Representing SDSU are senior captains Brooke Vessey and Emilee Jennings, sophomores Leona Jennings, Katelyn Weddle and Kim Bierwith plus incoming freshman Mikaela Macklin.

Weddle is coming off the finest performance in Aztec swimming history after her 12th place finish in the 100 breast at the 2010 NCAA championships. At the National Championships this week she is seeded 18th in that same event. In addition to the 100 breast, she will also be competing in the 200 breast and the 400 medley relay at the championships.

Weddle will join Leona and Emilee Jennings and Brooke Vessey to compete in the 400 Medley Relay, that same foursome won the 200 Medley Relay at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championships.

Macklin will also be competing in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events for her club team, the Sierra Marlins. Bierwith will also swim in a relay event with her club team, the Walnut Creek Aquabears.

Live results will be posted online at www.usa-swiming.org.
