Sept. 14, 2017
SAN DIEGO -
The San Diego State swimming and diving team begins its 2017-18 season on Friday, making the 9.2-mile trip via I-8 to the University of San Diego for a swim-only meet at the USD Sports Center Pool beginning at 1:30 p.m.
San Diego State’s 2017-18 roster features 11 newcomers, divided between nine freshmen and two transfers. The team returns 20 members of last season’s team that finished second in the Mountain West Championships.
Returners include McKenna Meyer, who was named Freshman of the Meet of the Mountain West Championships a season ago. She is joined by Frida Berggren, who placed third in the individual medley, second in the 200 butterfly, and 200 in the individual medley in the MWC last year. Other all-conference returners include Alexandra Caplan (diving), Nicole Dutton (diving), Summer Harrison (fly), Rachael Kelch (IM, fly), Morganne McKennan (breast), and Alma Thormalm (free).
Over the last eight years, SDSU has captured three conference titles, three second-place finishes and a pair of third-place results in the Mountain West.
SDSU will have a two-week break following the quick trip to USD and will head to Reno, Nev. on Sept. 30 for the Nevada Relays at the University of Nevada.
