Macklin Earns Mountain West Swimmer Of The Week Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Mikaela Macklin has earned Mountain West Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week honor for meets contested from Sept. 21-Oct. 7, 2012. It is the first career honor for Aztec junior.
Macklin, a native of Placerville, Calif., won the overall title in the season-opening pentathlon against University of San Diego with a combined five-event time of 4:53.06. She placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (52.04), 100-yard backstroke (58:29), 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.99) and 100-yard individual medley (58.83). Macklin posted a third-place time of 57.91 in the 100-yard butterfly.
She followed up the pentathlon with a strong performance in an SDSU dual-meet win against UNLV with three individual wins and a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.07). Macklin won the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.07), 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.82) and 200-yard individual medley (2:05.34).
The Aztecs will next be in action when they travel to Stockton, Calif., for the Pacific Invitational which will take place Oct. 19-20 at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex on the UOP campus.
