SDSU Women's Tennis Sweep Doubleheader Action to Open 2009 Campaign

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State Women's Tennis opened their 2009 spring dual-match campaign with a sweep in their home opener. The Aztec's opener was a double-header against UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton. SDSU has now won 13 - straight season openers and has started the season with a 2-0 record for the sixth year in a row.

The first match against UC Riverside was delayed due to rain but SDSU wouldn't be distracted. During the dual-match the Aztecs dropped only one match, taking care of UCR by the overall score of SDSU 6-1.

The Aztecs started their winning ways early by taking all three doubles matches. Julia Trunk and Holly Bagshaw defeated Erynne Oki and Angelique Corpuz 8-2. Roxanne and Sierra Ellison downed Donna McCullough and Anna Higane 8-1. Completing the doubles sweep was Esther Cadua and Milana Yusupov defeating Nadia and Yasaman Sahakorn.

The only singles match lost by San Diego State was Erynne Oki of UC Riverside over Julia Trunk 6-4, 6-1. Bagshaw returned to winning for SDSU by overpowering Nadia Sakhakorn 6-2, 6-0. Cadua and Colman defeated McCullough and Corpuz respectively, by the identical scores of 6-3, 6-0. Rounding out the winners were Yusupov and Kitts.

Despite starting the second dual-match late due to the rain delay in the morning, the Aztecs couldn't be stopped. SDSU once again swept doubles action by taking down Cal State Fullerton.

The doubles team of Trunk/Bagshaw began the sweep by defeating Fullerton's Injejikian/Inglis 8-6. The Ellison sisters took down Wiesener/Bullock 8-3 and Kitts/Cadua completed the doubles sweep by downing Andrews/Cruz 8-0.

Singles action kept the winning day going by SDSU sweeping all matches. Cadua, Colman and Sierra Ellison all defeated their opponents by the same score 6-0, 6-2. Trunk picked up her first victory of the day by taking care of Wiesner 6-2, 6-2. Roxanne Ellison, Yusupov and Colman completed the sweep by finishing off their opponents.

With today's victories the Aztecs improves their all-time record against the Titans (0-1) to a perfect 23-0 and are 5-0 against the Highlanders (0-1).

San Diego State will travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i to take on Hawai'i and UC Irvine, beginning Jan. 29, before returning home to face UC Berkeley on Feb. 6.
