W. Tennis shuts out UC Irvine 7-0

The San Diego State women’s tennis team wrapped its weekend of competition with an impressive 7-0 win over UC Irvine on Saturday to improve its mark to 3-0 on the season. The Aztecs won each doubles match and finished off all singles contests in just two sets.
Seniors Jana Buth and Paola Diaz kicked off doubles action with a 6-2 victory over Flora Amiri and Yulin Chen in the second seed, while junior Magda Aubets and freshman Nnena Nadozie took down Ashlynn Hall and Arianna Tilbury, 6-2, in the No. 3 matchup to claim the doubles point. Junior Jenny Moinard and sophomore Mia Smith also took down Anteaters Vivien Dvali and Stephanie Nguyen, 6-3, on court one.
In singles, Buth was the first to notch a win, owning Dvali 6-1, 6-2 in the top seed, while Nadozie dominated Tilbury 6-2, 6-0 on court five. Moinard’s 6-0, 6-2 finish over Chen in the fourth seed clinched the dual for the Aztecs.
On court three, Diaz overcame Amiri 7-5, 6-3, to log another point for SDSU, while freshman Abbie Mulbarger held on to take down UCI’s Gillian Parker, 6-1, 7-5, in the No. 6 seed. The team’s final point of the day came with Aubets claiming a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Nguyen on court two.
Following the back-to-back wins this weekend, the Aztecs hold a 3-0 record. Up next, SDSU travels to Berkeley, Calif., to face the California Golden Bears on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 1:30 p.m.
