SDSU Improves to 3-0 With Win at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The 58th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team went on the road and defeated No. 63 UC Irvine, 5-2, Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Aztecs improve to 3-0 on the season.
Sierra Ellison and Roxanne Ellison continued their winning ways by posting a 9-7 win at the top position. SDSU claimed the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead when Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar managed to pull out an identical 9-7 decision at No. 2.
In singles, San Diego State earned four victories, including two at the top of the competition ladder. On court No. 1, Julia Trunk was a three-set winner over Courtney Byron, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, as was Aguilar, who posted a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 decision over Becka Kwan.
Sierra Ellison pushed through at No. 4 and won a tough three-set match, beating Franziska Goettsching, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Then at No. 6, Emma Cioffi experienced no problems in her contest with Hannah Holladay in winning 6-2, 6-2.
The Aztecs return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 5, when they play host to Washington at Aztec Tennis Center. First serve is set for noon.
