No. 48 Women's Tennis Downs UC Davis, 5-2

SAN DIEGO - The 48th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team defeated UC Davis, 5-2, at Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday. SDSU took an early lead by claiming the doubles point and would go onto notch four more victories in singles. With the win, the Aztecs move up to 3-1 and the season.
Doubles play got the day underway with Tami Nguyen and Kennedy Davis defeating their Aggie opponents, Tiffany Pham and Samantha Martino, 7-6, on the third court. Dora Somorcaz and Hailey Johnson would San Diego State on the board by claiming the doubles point by downing Megan Heneghan and Melissa Kobayakawa in second doubles, 6-4. Kristin Buth and Laura Antonaña Iriarte completed the doubles sweep after getting past Layla Sanders and Nicole Koehly on court No. 1, 6-4.
In third singles, Nguyen put up SDSU's second point of the day by defeating Koehly, 7-5, 6-2. Antonaña Iriarte would bring the Aztecs within one point of victory as she dismissed Heneghan in first singles, 6-4, 6-2. On court No. 2, Buth secured the win for San Diego State as she handled Sanders in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Kamila Kecki was determined to avoid the Aztec sweep as she took Olivia Larsson to a 10-point tiebreaker in sixth singles, ultimately taking the decision, 7-6, 6-3, 10-7. In fifth singles, Pham gave the Aggies their second point of the day, also by taking her match to a 10-point tiebreaker over Johnson, 6-4, 6-7, 10-4. Sixth singles saw SDSU's final point of the match with Davis retiring Kobayakawa due to injury at 7-all in the 10-point tiebreak set, 6-4, 6-7, 7-7.
The Aztecs will get back on the courts on Feb. 6 against UC Irvine. First serve at Aztec Tennis Center is set for 2 pm.
