Aztecs Defeat Portland in Seattle, 5-2

SEATTLE - The No. 48 San Diego State women's tennis squad took down Portland, 5-2, at Nordstrom Tennis Center in a neutral-site contest at the University of Washington. With the victory, the Aztecs improve to 3-1 on the year, while the Pilots fall to 1-3.

SDSU won the doubles point after taking matches at the top two positions. Julia Trunk and Julia Wais were 8-4 winners at No. 2, and Roxanne and Sierra Ellison clinched the team point after defeating Megan Sporndli and Lacey Pfibsen, 8-6, at the top of the order.

In singles, the Aztecs maintained their momentum and took a commanding 3-0 lead after pocketing victories at Nos. 4 and 2. Alicia Aguilar won at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-2, over Valeska Hoath, and was followed off the court by Wais at the second position after her 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Sporndli.

Portland finally got on the scoreboard and made it a 3-1 match after Pfibsen down Trunk in straight sets at the top of the ladder, but the Aztecs clinched the dual match when Sierra Ellison was victorious at No. 5, 7-6(5), 6-0, over Stephanie Fuchs.

San Diego State returns to the court on Sunday when it takes on No. 20 Washington at Nordstrom Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT.
