SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team opened its two-match homestand in disappointing fashion on Wednesday, dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 54 LSU at Aztec Tennis Center. The 46th-ranked Aztecs (3-3) went down to defeat for the third time in their last four outings, while the Lady Tigers (2-0) won for the second time in as many days.

Once again SDSU found itself in early trouble after losing all three doubles matches. The Aztec duo of Alesya Vidov and Ozge Atalay were quickly dispatched by the pairing of Staten Spencer and Mykala Hedberg, 8-2, on the No. 2 court. LSU snared the doubles point shortly afterward when the nation's 10th-ranked team of Megan Falcon and Hannah Robinson ousted the SDSU tandem of Holly Bagshaw and Eliska Krausova by an identical 8-2 margin in the No. 1 spot. The Aztecs were unable to avoid the sweep as the twosome of Kathryn Kitts and Sisse Nielsen fell to the Tigers' Tiffany Tucker and Nicole Kantor, 8-3, at No. 3.

LSU perpetuated SDSU's misery in singles play, taking five of six contests. Kathryn Kitts was dealt a 6-2, 6-0 setback at the hands of Ashley Murdock at No. 6, while Sisse Nielsen suffered the same misfortune against Robinson by a 6-3, 6-1 count in the fifth position. With a 3-0 advantage in team points, the Lady Tigers then clinched the match in the No. 2 spot when Hedberg knocked off Bagshaw, 6-2, 6-1, in a battle of nationally ranked opponents. The No. 1 court also featured a pair of ranked players as Falcon (No. 2) upended Krausova (No. 69), 6-2, 7-5.

Only a victory by Vidov in the No. 3 position prevented an LSU shutout. The Aztec senior exacted a measure of revenge against her earlier doubles adversary after outlasting Spencer in a hard-fought match, 6-4, 7-6(4). With her effort, the Moscow, Russia, native tied Krausova for the team lead with her 10th triumph of the season.

SDSU will have little time to rest as No. 52 Arizona visits Montezuma Mesa on Friday, Feb. 9. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. PST at Aztec Tennis Center.
