SAN DIEGO - The 60th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team fell to No. 5 California at the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday with a final score of 6-1. The loss drops the Aztecs under .500 for the first time this season at 3-4.

SDSU won the doubles match at court No. 3, but was unable to receive the doubles point for the second time this season. With her regular partner Roxanne Ellison still sitting with an ankle injury, Sierra Ellison joined senior Olivia Colman and came out with an 8-3 victory over the Bears' Stephany Chang and Alice Duranteau.

As for singles, the Aztecs had some close calls but unfortunately were only able to win one match. Colman faced Stephany Chang at No. 6 and finished with a quick 6-4, 6-1 win. After being on the bad end of a 6-0 first set, Junior Sierra Ellison fought hard at No. 4, just losing her second set to Annie Goransson 7-5.

Finishing last were SDSU's Emma Cioffi and Cal Bear Alice Duranteau at No. 5. Cioffi won the first set, but lost steam in the final two taking a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 loss.

SDSU will return to the Aztec Tennis Center Friday, Feb. 18th as they face No. 43 Long Beach State. Game time is set for 2 p.m. PT.
