No. 54 Women's Tennis Edged 4-3 By No. 35 Saint Mary's

SEATTLE, Wash. - The San Diego State women's tennis team came close to topping No. 34 Saint Mary's but could not finish the job, dropping the close match, 4-3, on Saturday. The 54th-ranked Aztecs could not come up with enough wins in singles competition to take the decision despite taking an early lead by claiming the doubles point. With Saturday's outcome, SDSU has a 4-5 mark on the season.
Doubles play started the day off and the Aztec duo of Kristin Buth and Laura Antonaña Iriarte put San Diego State on the board by downing Danielle Flores and Jamie Pawid, 8-4, on court No. 1. Tami Nguyen and Kennedy Davis notched the point for SDSU by dismissing Elizabeth Searl and Jade Frampton, 8-4, in third doubles. The match on court No. 2 between Hailey Johnson, Dora Somoracz and Jenny Jullien and Catherine Leduc would go unfinished with the doubles point being previously decided.
In singles competition, Nguyen gave the Aztecs their second point by defeating Parminder Kaur in third singles, 6-1, 6-1.In second singles, Frampton put the Gaels on the board by getting past Olivia Larsson on court No. 6, 6-2, 6-2. On court No. 1, No. 35 Antonaña Iriarte dropped her first singles match of the season to 13th-ranked Jullien, 6-1, 6-3. Court No. 4 saw Saint Mary's take its third point as Flores topped Davis, 6-3, 6-0. In fifth singles, Leduc defeated Somoracz, 6-2, 6-3. Second singles saw Buth give San Diego State its final point as she finished off No. 46 Pawid in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.
SDSU will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 18 against USC at Aztec Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 pm.
