W. Tennis defeats Cal Poly, 5-2

The San Diego State women’s tennis team claimed its sixth straight doubles point to contribute to its 5-2 win over Cal Poly on Saturday afternoon. With today’s win, the Aztecs complete a six-match home stand and snap a three-match losing streak.
The Aztecs sustained their winning trend in doubles action Saturday, claiming the point in their first two matches. Junior Magda Aubets and freshman Nnena Nadozie downed Cal Poly’s Caroline Williams and Grace Olyphant, 6-1, on court three, marking the duo’s sixth-straight win in doubles action. On court two, seniors Jana Buth and Paola Diaz finished off MacKenzie Worsnop and Abigail Bacharach, 6-3, to secure the first SDSU team point.
The Mustangs were first to score in singles action, capturing their only two points of the day in the first two matches to finish. On court six, Celine Gruaz swept sophomore Mia Smith, 6-0, 6-0, while Cal Poly’s Molly Reed claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory on court three over Diaz. Nadozie dominated in the five seed, downing Olyphant 6-0, 6-2.
With the Aztecs and Mustangs tied at two-all, Buth finished off Cal Poly’s Worsnop in two sets, going 6-4, 6-1 in the top seed. Junior Jenny Moinard notched a consecutive singles victory on court four, clinching the win for the Aztecs, 6-2, 6-4, over Williams, and shortly after, Aubets finished off Seriana Saltzen, 6-4, 7-5, in the second seed.
