No. 58 Women's Tennis Falls To No. 9 USC

The 58th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team could not keep up with No. 9 Southern California on Tuesday. The Trojans brought a squad of nationally ranked players and proved too much for the Aztecs who fell, 7-0, at Aztec Tennis Center. This afternoon's result brings SDSU's overall record to 4-6.
Competition got underway with doubles action and court No. 1 saw the first final as Laura Antonaña Iriarte and Kristin Buth came up short to the 26th-ranked duo of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria, 8-3. In second doubles, the No. 4 team of Giuliana Olmos and Zoe Scandalis clinched the point for USC as they topped Tami Nguyen and Kennedy Davis, 8-2. Eighth-ranked Brynn Boren and Zoe Katz picked up the third doubles decision on court No. 2 over Dora Somoracz and Hailey Johnson, 8-5.
In singles play, Christian picked up the Trojan's second point of the day as she topped Isabelle Hoorn on court No. 6, 6-0, 6-0. Second singles saw a similar result as Nguyen fell to 50th-ranked Scandalis, 6-0, 6-1. The identical score would be posted in fifth singles as Katz outpaced Somoracz. On court No. 2 Buth could not keep up with No. 118 Boren, 6-3, 6-2. In the closest match of the day, No. 35 Antonaña Iriarte competed with 26th-ranked Santamaria but could not close out the final, falling, 7-5, 7-5. In fourth singles, No. 99 Olmos picked up Southern California's final point as she defeated Davis, 7-6, 6-3.
San Diego State will next see competition on Sunday, Feb. 23 as it takes on Loyola Marymount. First serve at Aztec Tennis Center is set for noon.
