Feb. 25, 2018
The San Diego State women’s tennis team wrapped up its trip to the Aloha State with a challenging 4-0 loss to the University of Hawai’i. The Aztecs' six-match streak of winning the doubles point was snapped, and SDSU was unable to answer Hawai’i’s initial singles victories.
The Rainbow Wahine got off to a hot start with wins in the first two doubles matches. On court two, Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma claimed a 6-2 victory over seniors Jana Buth and Paola Diaz, as UH’s Klara Pribylova and Nikola Dolakova topped junior Jenny Moinard and sophomore Mia Smith in the top seed, 6-2, to claim the doubles point for Hawai’i.
The Aztecs continued battling heading into singles action, but came up short in their first three matches to allow the Rainbow Wahine to clinch the dual. On court four, Moinard’s singles win streak was snapped by UH’s Pribylova, 6-0, 6-3, and Melounova defeated Buth, 6-2, 6-4, in the first seed.
Hawai’i snagged their final win of the afternoon in the No. 3 seed. Diaz fell behind in the first set and despite a strong effort in set two, ultimately dropped the match 6-1, 7-5 to Marina Hruba and the Rainbow Wahine clinched the dual.
