On a busy and rain-soaked day on The Mesa, the San Diego State women's tennis team could not pick up enough steam to take down 65th-ranked South Florida on Thursday. The match, originally scheduled for a noon start, was delayed until nearly 3:30 pm due to weather. Once action got underway, the final score was decided by singles competition alone.

The Bulls took an early lead with Loreto Alonso-Martinez upsetting No. 54 Laura Antonaña Iriarte in first singles, 6-2, 6-1. Sixth singles would see USF's second point as Olga Martinez defeated Hailey Johnson, 6-3, 6-2. The second upset of the day came on court No. 2 where Kayla Rizzolo got past 121st-ranked Kristin Buth, 6-3, 6-4. In fifth singles, Vera Bessonova clinched the match for the Bulls as she topped Dora Somoracz, 7-5, 6-2. On court No. 3, Tami Nguyen took her match to three sets but couldn't finish off Olay Garrido-Rivas, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. In the last dual on the courts, freshman Kennedy Davis fought back to avoid a sweep as she downed Fanny Fracassi in fourth singles, 0-6, 7-5, 11-9.

Next up, San Diego State will hit the road and face No. 60 Arizona on Saturday at 9:30 am.
