Aztec Women's Tennis Defeat Lions, 4-3, in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES - The San Diego State women's tennis team defeated Loyola Marymount on the road on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center. The Lions took the doubles point, forcing the Aztecs to fight back to take the win.
Sierra and Roxanne Ellison were the only SDSU doubles team to get a win, picking up the decision over Jasmin Heckel and Elisaveta Pironkova, 8-5, in second doubles. Julia Trunk teamed with Milana Yusupov in first doubles. The duo fell to Jane Pringle and Bliss Nixon, 8-5. In third doubles, Kathryn Kitts and Esther Cadua were outpaced by Tina Rzioznik and Shauna Morgan, 8-3.
In singles action, Rzioznik defeated Trunk in first singles, 6-2, 6-0, handing Trunk her second loss of the day. The Lions would only pick up one other win on the day with Pironkova taking Roxanne Ellison in fourth singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Emma Cioffi took Heckel in a hard fought match in second singles, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. In third singles, Cadua picked up a win over Pringle, 6-2, 6-1. Sierra Ellison took down Estelle LaPorte in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, in sixth singles.
With the win, San Diego State improves to 8-3 on the season. Up next for the Aztecs is a six-match homestand, beginning with Nebraska on March 17 at 2 p.m. PT at the Aztec Tennis Center.
