No. 52 Women's Tennis Tops Marquette, 5-2

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team got back on the courts on Friday and handed visiting Marquette a 5-2 loss. The 52nd-ranked Aztecs dropped the doubles point early in the afternoon but staged a rally in singles to pick up the win. SDSU moves up to 7-3 on the season.
In doubles action, on court No. 2, Julia Wais and Kristin Buth fell short to Erin Gebes and Ana Pimienta, 8-4. The Golden Eagles would clinch the doubles point with Ali Dawson and Aina Hernandez Soler topping Laura Antonana Iriarte and Michela Casanova on court No. 1, 8-5. In third doubles, Alicia Aguilar and Isabelle Hoorn got past Rocio Diaz and Aleeza Kanner, 8-4.
San Diego State came out charging in singles play, with Aguilar finishing first on court No. 2. The Aztec senior would notch her second win of the day, once again defeating Diaz, 6-0, 6-0. In second singles, Antonana Iriarte downed Gebes, 6-4, 6-1, while Buth dismissed Dawson on court No. 4, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Tami Nguyen would not be as fortunate as her SDSU teammates, dropping the decision to Hernandez Soler in fifth singles, 6-1, 6-4. Casanova would add another to the win column for San Diego State and clinched the win on court No. 6, defeating Vanessa Foltinger, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. In first singles, a battle for the victory would be the final match of the day to finish, with Wais coming out on top over Pimienta, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
SDSU is set to face No. 15 California on Sunday, March 17. First serve is set for 12 pm at Aztec Tennis Center.
