No. 52 WT Drops 6-1 Decision To No. 15 California

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team was unable to post a perfect weekend on Sunday, falling 6-1 to No. 15 California. The Aztecs could not stage a rally in singles play after falling short in doubles action. SDSU drops to 7-4 on the season.
In doubles action, the 40th-ranked duo of Lynn Chi and Anett Schutting would top Laura Antonana Iriarte and Michela Casanova on court No. 1, 8-2. Julia Wais and Kristin Buth would put San Diego State on the board as the pair downed Klara Fabikova and Kelly Chui in second doubles, 8-3. The Golden Bears' Tayler Davis and Annie Goransson would clinch the doubles point as they nearly escaped Isabelle Hoorn and Alicia Aguilar, 8-6.
In singles play, Goransson picked up her second win on the day, over Casanova on court No. 6, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Tami Nguyen easily dismissed Chui in fifth singles, 6-4, 6-1, and would be the only Aztec to notch a point for the team. On court No. 2, 108th-ranked Klara Fabikova defeated Aguilar, 6-3, 6-4. In third singles, Antonana Iriarte put up fight against No. 57 Chi, ultimately falling to the Golden Bear, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Buth fell to Davis on court No. 4, 7-6, 6-2, while a clash of the top singles players on each team continued in first singles. Wais would take the first set but ultimately dropped the decision to ninth-ranked Schutting, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Up next, the Aztecs will face Pepperdine on March 20 in the rescheduled match that was originally set for March 8 but canceled due to weather. First serve will be at 2 pm PT at Aztec Tennis Center.
