No. 57 WT Wins Second Straight; Downs Dartmouth, 5-2

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team picked up its second win of the week, downing Dartmouth, 5-2, on Friday afternoon. The Aztecs would take an early lead by picking up the doubles point and would go on to take four more wins in singles play to notch the victory at Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU moves up to 9-4 on the season.
On court No. 1, Laura Antonana Iriarte and Michela Casanova dropped their match to Katherine Yau and Akiko Okuda, 8-1. In third doubles, Alicia Aguilar and Isabelle Hoorn put San Diego State on the board by defeating Janet Liu and Suzy Tan, 8-4. On court No. 2, Julia Wais and Kristin Buth would pull out a close win over Sarah Bessen and Melissa Matsuoka to take the point, 8-6.
Singles play would resume action on the courts, as court No. 2 would see the first conclusion. Aguilar was forced to retire early due to injury, as she faced Liu, 6-1, ret. In fourth singles, Buth would notch the second point for SDSU as she downed Okuda, 6-3, 6-1. Reigning Mountain West Player of the Week, Wais, was able to get past Sarah Leonard on court No. 1, 6-0, 7-6 (1). Matsuoka added a point for Dartmouth as she defeated Tami Nguyen in fifth singles, 6-3, 6-2. On court No. 3, Antonana would take Yau to three sets, ultimately coming out on top, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. In sixth singles, Casanova put the finishing touches on the Big Green, defeating Bessen, 6-4, 0-6, 7-5.
San Diego State will next Sacramento State on March 28 at 2 pm at Aztec Tennis Center.
