LAS VEGAS - San Diego State extended its season-long winning streak to eight matches with a 4-3 upset victory over No. 23 Brigham Young Saturday morning at Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV. The 36th-ranked Aztecs matched their longest winning streak since 2003 and watch their record climb to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play.

SDSU got off to a rough start as Brigham Young claimed victories at all three doubles positions to take the doubles point and the 1-0 lead heading into singles. That lead increased to 2-0 after Esther Cadua dropped a three-set match to Jennifer Miccoli at No. 6.

The Aztecs finally dented the scoreboard when Sisse Nielsen won her sixth consecutive match as she defeated Dolly Chang, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 to cut the SDSU deficit to one. The Cougars quickly regained their two-point advantage when Lauren Jones downed Alesya Vidov in straight sets at No. 2 to put BYU within one point of victory.

It was at that point the Aztecs made their comeback, beginning with Milana Yusupov's 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 4 over Sofia Holden, her fifth straight. Then at No. 3, Eliska Krausova fought her way to a tough three-set, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2, win over Anastasia Sourkova to knot the overall score at 3-3. Krausova's victory extended her personal-best winning streak to nine matches.

The deciding match came down to No. 1 singles, where Dita Hauerlandova and 18th-ranked Olga Boulytcheva were engaged in a battle. Hauerlandova dropped the first set to her counterpart, 5-7, only to come back and win the second, 6-4. Then with the overall match on the line, the Aztec senior put forth a 6-4, third-set performance to complete the rally and the upset.

San Diego State concludes its weekend stay in Las Vegas when it takes on No. 63 UNLV on Sunday, March 26. Match time is set for 10 a.m. PST.
